HI there.
ive been having trouble with my daughters pc with windows and her hard drive. I had the the thought of using a usb stick with Kolibrios on it to try as i used to program in the 70/80s in asembler. (long time ago). ive downloaded the os but cant find a definitive guide from scratch on how to format and install a bootable kolibrios os onto a usb stick. Is this possible and practical. ?
Hopefully i could then boot up pc and try to repair for her.
Best Regards David

Hi there,
It's very easy:
1. Insert your USB stick into Windows PC and format it with FAT32.
2. Download latest "Universal image Flash/HDD" from here:
http://builds.kolibrios.org/eng/latest-distr.7z
3. Unzip the downloaded file with 7zip.
4. Go to folder ..latest-distr\HD_Load\USB_Boot and read file "readme.txt".
5. Run file "inst.exe", select your USB stick and press OK.
6. Copy file ..latest-distr\kolibri.img to the parent directory of USB stick.
7. Try booting from this USB stick (remember to enable USB boot in BIOS, and give it highest priority).
8. Only if it doesn't boot successfully, go to folder ..latest-distr\HD_Load\USB_Boot and run file "setmbr.exe"
If you use Linux, then perform Linux-related instructions at the bottom of "readme.txt".

Yes, it’s possible and practical: download the KolibriOS USB image, use a tool like Rufus or balenaEtcher to write the image directly to a USB stick (no manual formatting needed), then boot the PC from USB via BIOS/UEFI; KolibriOS runs entirely from RAM, so you can test hardware, browse files, and attempt basic diagnostics, though it’s limited for full Windows repair.
