no, Ctrl+Alt+F12 then Enter does nothing. I did manage to get Kolibri to boot from my usb drive, however. Do you think kolibri (or possibly memdisk?) has a problem reading ext4? I can't find any mention of this.

fair enough. still odd that it's just a black screen though as opposed to just being off center as usual. also, it's strange that in menuetos, I'd have cursor movement. of course, I wouldn't actually see a cursor, just a few white pixels.

Well, I know for a fact, my monitor does not support standard vesa timings well at all, and I haven't felt like lugging any of my old crts out of the basement. The thing is, generally, if it were out of range, the monitor would go into standby. This monitor, though, for one, it does not have an edid...

No messages. Just black. And with kolibri, no cursor movement either.

Just tried the nightly, same thing.

And I do use option load image from real floppy. I also tried VRR on and off, since my monitor is connected via dsub.

Eh, I tried Kolibri a few months ago and never posted this. I had a similar problem with MenuetOS before it. post on their forums Booting from Grub using memdisk from syslinux 3.84 now. Tried at 800x600 and 1024x768. The difference between Kolibri and MenuetOS is I don't even get any cursor movement...
