I don't know how this should be done properly but the most obvious way to implement this functionality seems to be API of open, seek/tell, read/write, close.
Yes, this requires a kind of file descriptors but we need them anyway.

The disk is partinioned through DOS though. I formatted my test partition via 'mkfs.vfat -F16' in Linux and then copied files via Linux too. Not sure if this matters though. Maybe I should create a thread, as I managed to install Kolibrios on a HDD, without any other OS, and with very very very eas...

macgub , I have just uploaded your new version, thanks for sharing. I applied a few minor edits: converted names of included files to lower case: -include "FLAT_CAT.INC" +include "flat_cat.inc" ; and so on... This is because our build server runs Linux where FS is case-sensitive...

Tailkinker,

We provide a prebuilt image for USB sticks.
Uncompress it and flash with 'cat' or 'dd'. You will lose all the data on that disk.

However, dosbox seams to be deadly slow. Is there a way to increase its speed? Is there a way to adjust the config file of dosbox in general? DOSBox config file is in dosbox directory in /hd0/1/kolibrios/emul/dosbox. I don't use DOSBox and therefore I'm not familiar with options inside that file. T...

That's weird, why not? In short, because nobody implemented it. And when it says mtldr "works with" DOS/Win95/etc, does that mean it will automatically set up a dual boot with those OSes? There is no such program as mtldr.exe, you probably meant mtldr_install.exe. That installer tries to ...

So how to I "change return code of sysfn70.5 for root dirs from 0 to 2 (as it was before r6868), DOSBox will 'dir' correctly." ?? It's for developers to fix this bug, not for you. But you can try this kolibri.img . It has a workaround that I will not commit to the repository. DOSBox seems...

You didn't miss anything, KolibriOS can't install itself.

There is INSTALL.TXT file in the distro. Pay attention to section "II. Install to hard disk."

Is there an option/way to make kolibri look in "kolibri" instead of "kolibrios" folder for the extras ? Look at this post and below. I didn't try it myself but it should be possible to specify any other directory instead of /hd0/1/kolibrios. I tried mount g /hd0/3 but doesn't wo...

Pathoswithin , DOSBox 'dir' command doesn't work since r6868 , details on the screenshots. This is because of changed return code of sysfn70.5 (GetFIleInfo) for root dirs (e.g. /hd0/1/). If you change return code of sysfn70.5 for root dirs from 0 to 2 (as it was before r6868), DOSBox will 'dir' cor...

Well, your first post mentioned the issue of syslinux loader and its config file. I didn't mean to be offensive in any way, it is just naturally and more productive to ask syslinux developers about syslinux. Now it looks like you are trying to get KolibriOS the only OS installed on a HDD, what you h...

Hi there, <<no DEFAULT or UI statement is found, or the configuration file is missing entirely,>> I want to help you, but the message has nothing to do with KolibriOS. As you mentioned, it originates from that "hacked for dos version of syslinux". I sometimes use syslinux on Linux, config ...

Leency , I updated the image . It won't boot but should provide more information. Only the last photo is needed. I suspect that EFI framebuffer may be located above 4G. If it is the case, only implementation of PAE will help. Serge implemented PAE support in kolibri-acpi branch, but it's still a lo...
