Security of KolibriOS

Has the security of KolibriOS ever been independently tested? I noticed that there is no distinction between the type of users (everyone is root), nor is there filessytem support for ACL's or even Unix-type security. Also, there is very little parameter checking on the system API calls. I know it's ...

But can you at least port a version of Netsurf which has JavaScript support?

Re: What's the goal?

So I assume you want to make a desktop operating system that can compete with Windows, Mac OS X or Linux? I admire your skill and bravery, but I believe it's an exercise in futility, much like Wine (the Windows re-implementation on Linux). You could spend years trying to get to the point where the f...

Re: What's the goal?

Why does NetSurf have a much higher priority than Firefox? Netsurf is very limiited in that it doesn't support JavaScript and almost all websites require this today for proper functioning.

If I were you I'd give top priority to porting Firefox or some other mainline browser.

What's the goal?

I was wondering: what is the GOAL of the KolibriOS project? If the goal is to show that with assembly you can build a graphical, superfast and small relatively complete desktop operating system, then it has already succeeded. If the goal is to build a desktop operating system to compete with Windows...

Re: Is it possible to have KolibriOS for everyday use?

My answer would be: NO.

Although KolibriOS is very impressive, it's not usable for day to day work. Biggest drawback is that the web browser (Netsurf) isn't really usable since it doesn't support JavaScript, and these days almost ALL websites use and need JavaScript.

Re: Would it be possible to run KolibriOS on this device?

Windows CE ussually runs on a non-x86 processor, so I would guess NO.

Impressed

After reading about MenuetOS I stumbled upon KolibriOS and I was very impressed with what I found. What really impressed me was when I ran the "Gears" demo and the CPU went all the way up to 100% but the desktop and other apps remained responsive and working. Why can't Windows be like that...
