  • I never understood why people put pictures in the DOC file, if you can put just a picture.
Probably, I do not understand structure of the world and people.

  • At one project clients allways sent me screenshots in XLS files.

OK, and when you click "PCI Bus" button in Win98, can you then click on the |0 - 11 - 0| button?

Blue wizard shows over ¨Location¨ buttons, but they are unresponsive too in win98.
  • If you can replace the 'CMOS battery' on the motherboard (which unfortunately
would probably require some disassembly of the notebook) it won't lose it's
settings (like the year setting ) every time you reboot it.
The CMOS battery is bad, as seen at; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whP4xKHTkOs&t=1m20s

I'm not understanding why no L2 cache is discovered, according to the everest log
(No se ha encontrado ninguna memoria cache L2 en la cpu)
and why the setup screen shows 'Add Disks visible by the BIOS: deactivated'
(agregar discos visibles por el bios: desactivated)

Battery was replaced, when I switched from win 95, to 98.
Now 355 shows no BIOS errors when booting.

KolibriOS config blue screen, has 5 option to tweak, if system do not load.

Thats the reason why B option, was off.
  • (Following on from PM) Thanks for doing with 'System Speed Test Ver 4.78',
    http://web.archive.org/web/200706260717 ... /index.htm
always good to have a second different check.
    And in that Report speedsys.txt was seen;
    PCI/AGP Device Information [PCI 2.10] ...
    [00-11-0]
    ÀÄÄÄÄÄ VEN_10B9, DEV_5229, REV_20, SUBSYS_00000000
Acer Labs ALI M5229 EIDE Controller
so definate you have the 0x20 revision of the M5229 mentioned earlier.
    Also found a reference; http://www.geocities.ws/optionpage/acer.html
so it's correct that there was no L2 cache in this system - apparently
at that time some makers omitted L2 to gain a lower price point.
(Also note from that webpage, you possibily can use LCD and CRT simultaneously -
    in graphics mode, but probably not in text mode, according to;
    http://www.decadence.it/mirrors/www.res ... /pa314.pdf)

Yes, second level cache, was introduced with pentium pro processor.

Not quite. Pentium Pro introduced on package L2 cache (and eventually some later CPU's
had L2 cache moved to on chip/on die).
    http://www.cpu-world.com/Glossary/L/Level_2_cache.html
Some earlier CPU's than Pentium Pro could have L2 cache, just not integral with the CPU
but located exterior to the CPU, on the motherboard. (However, not all earlier motherboard makers
placed L2 cache on their motherboards, or sometimes they placed only slots that gave option to
later add L2 cache to their motherboard, e.g. 'COAST modules' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache_on_a_stick ).
L2 Cache could be seen used with 486 and sometimes 386 CPU's.
    http://books.google.com.au/books?id=TVz ... 22&f=false
(Note, above book was written circa 1995, so it is not talking about the 486 CPU's that are still
being manufactured up to recent years.)
And 'old timers' still reminisce about such obsolete things....
