hello
i found back an hp vectra 386/20N, with (i think) 8MB of ram.. it ran win3.11 years ago, then for the experiment os2/w3, i tried now to launch kolibri on it : with the floppy, unfortunately with several options changed, after the "long percentage loading" it stays just in black/empty screen, then reboots.
could kolibri run on that type of computer? thanks !
kolibri on... 386DX
Hello, KolibriOS requires i586 to run. WIth some out-of-tree hacks it is possible to start it on i486.
KolibriOS does not support 386 processors. According to the stated specifications, KolibriOS requires at least an i586 (Pentium) architecture to function properly. In certain situations, with unofficial modifications, the operating system will boot on an i486, however the 386DX is entirely inadequate.lm2 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:47 am hello Scratch Games

Unfortunately, KolibriOS cannot run on a 386-based machine like the HP Vectra 386/20N. KolibriOS officially requires at least an i586 (Pentium-class) CPU. While there have been some unofficial experiments allowing limited booting on certain i486 systems, the 386 architecture lacks essential instructions and features needed by the kernel. That’s why you see it load for a while and then end up with a black screen followed by a reboot.busythames wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 12:25 pmKolibriOS does not support 386 processors.
