How to access the internet in Kolibri?

Post here questions, problems and suggestions in English language
  • What is your network card? What type of connection do you use?
  • I use a lan cable and I've got a realtek network card. How to install a realtek driver and how to access the internet then?
  • EuropeanDeveloper
Can you say number of card? Because Realtek produces many different cards.
  • yes, its Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
  • No, I'm meaning full model of card - name and number.

The current actual kernel (trunk) is supporting RTL8029, RTL8139 and RTL8169.
  • It is an 8111 (8169 driver compatible) but it is on the pci express bus, dont know if that works in current kolibri ?

  • EuropeanDeveloper, you do not need to install anything by hand - in the current kernel model all existing drivers are already built into the kernel.
To see, whether the kernel supports your card, boot the system, open the application BOARD - its icon is located in the upper-right corner of the screen - and switch to the "tab" named "User". One of programs, which get loaded at boot, tries to initialize a network card and query an address from DHCP server; it prints messages to the BOARD.
  • ok, thanks for this information. My board prints the following text out:

    Code: Select all

    opening socket
    "http://google.com/"
    "google.com"
    "/"
    "Resolving..."
    "GotReponse"
    "GotReponse"
    "Resolved"
    Get / HTTP/1.1
    Host: google.com
    User-Agent: Kolibrios Downloader
    Connection: close

    rid
    close socket: 00000000
    pos = 00000212
The HTML Viewer says "301 Moved...", so does ist connect, but not show the document or is there no connection with the internet?
  • Congratulations, you're online!
Try to delete some demos and games from /rd/1/games or /rd/1/games folders. This problem may be because downloaded internet pages are stored on ramdrive (which is almost full).
Btw, you can launch IRC client to check your network connection.
  • ok. yeah, thanks :D
    Спасибо!

    (I'm learning Russian language)

Is there another way to boot KolibriOs, so that not the ramdrive is used?
