Hi everyone,

I have been looking at this OS as it is almost perfect for what I require. but i have a few questions

1. What programming language does it support (most of my applciations are done in Visual Basic 2008 and FreeBASIC)
2. Can I use it in a Commercial environment (as I want to replace Windows with a much lighter Operating system)
3. Can I access USB and Serial Ports as easy as I can on Windows / Linux
4. Can I re band the OS to my requirements?


If I have to write my program into another Programming language what language do you all recommend

1. In Kolibri operating system many languages are supported, such as: FASM, MASM, NASM, C/C++, C--, Oberon, Forth, Pascal, Lua, Java, some Python, some BASIC and may be something else). But Visual Basic unfortunately is not supported, afaik.
2. Kolibri operating system, I think yes. Becouse it is open source, with GNU GPL v2. But other programmes supplied with kolibri operating system may can have another licenses (see them on svn ).
3. I don't no.

I don't no what to recommend u, because many languages are good. And all depends on what programming language(s) u know.

I think u can use: FASM, C, C--, Oberon or Lua. For this languages were ported translators, that works right in to Kolibri operating system, and also for this languages has many libraries, ported and self written. Of course you can write your programs in other languages, but then you'll have to write them in other operating systems (GNULinux, Windows), which is pretty uncomfortable, i think.

maybe freebasic can be run within dosbox, but keep in mind that kolibri os is not a finished operating system. So for day to day use I would prefer linux and maybe look into mono (visual studio for linux I think).
