If I cannot get this one working I would like to try your bootloader suggestion Phantom-84, but I'm afraid those steps are kind of complicated for me to follow.. I don't know how to write Alter-3.bin into the MBR and I don't understand step 2 at all.
I'm not providing setup tool for Alter. But you can use any suitable hex editor, e.g. HxD.
Does "bootsect /nt52 k:" not work? bootsect can be found in folder "boot" in distribution disk.

I see that your Windows partition is not active now, so using grub perhaps will be easier for you.

I think I will stay with things as they are now. I scrambled my computer's boot record a couple times and am afraid to touch it again for a while. Using Grub2, Kolibri boots pretty slowly (I searched the forum and found at least one other person with this problem) but once it loads, everything seems fine. So I am happy for now. Anyway I already learned something - about primary and extended partitions :) Thank you again

Please, try another MEMDISK version. May be this version tries to emulate floppy booting.
