Why is the data in floppy1440 required?

I know calculations on them are being performed, and the results of these calculations are necessary, but why is there a necessity for the data in this file? It appears that it's required by the FAT12 file system architecture. If so, could somebody please tell me that systems requirements? Or how I could find them out?

Thanks mike.dld. I was actually looking for why the software was required, rather than what the software requires, but I took a look at the text file you mentioned and it pointed to some hard drive loaders, and I hadn't thought to look at them.

Why is the data in floppy1440 required?
